Arsène Wenger has raised the question of what happens
if the Spartak-Lyon game is called off because of the weather.
Our match in Munich has been given the early kick-off time
of 6pm (or 5.55), in order to meet the requirement that the
final games of the group be played simultaneously.
Wenger said, "I hear there is one metre of snow in Moscow and that there is a doubt over the match.... I don't know what would happen to our game if the one in Moscow is called off."
For what it's worth, weather forecasts have Moscow improving in the
next few days. It's freezing and foggy now, but
yahoo reckon that by Wednesday it'll be sunny, with a low of zero (Celsius). The Met office are less sure that it'll be sunny (their
sun icons is hiding behind a cloud and looks slightly less happy than the yahoo one). Confusingly, they nevertheless think it'll be warmer, with the temperature only dropping as far as a sweltering
2 degrees above zero. Place your bets....
While we're at it, Munich is expected to be a little warmer,
but possibly wetter.

The latest on Bergkamp is that he is expected to be sent to Munich (setting off today) if only because of the uncertainty of
Kanu's return from Africa.
Our view is that Bergkamp must go. To say that it'd be wrong to send him if he wasn't a definite starter seems to be a
case of misplaced priorities. The simple fact is, we need to win
this game (a loss is literally as good a result as a draw!).
So surely we have to take whatever attacking options we can?
(NB. subsequently Dennis pulled out anyway, because of injury)
(And now we go over LIVE to our weather correspondent in Moscow,
Gary Bacon....)
"A good two foot of snow fell over recent weeks but the temp is around 4 or 5 degrees c at the moment and it's all melting fast. The Spartak ground at Luzniki stadium has underground heating so that could work for or against us."
(Gary changes to his sports correspondent hat...)
"Spartak played their first game of the new season on Sunday with a 0-0 draw at home to Sokol Saratov (at least they are playing again though). One of their better strikers, Alexander Shirko, came back from injury although their sweeper is likely tomiss the Lyon match through injury. "
