Bayern Munich, who may - or may not - hold the key to Arsenal's Champions League progress, went back to the top of the Bundesliga at the weekend, despite the absence of a couple of star players.
With Oliver Kahn and Jens Jeremies both suspended - and hence fresh for Wednesday night, Bayern beat lowly Energie Cottbus (great name!) 2-0... and by the sounds of things, should have scored a couple more.
Mehmet Scholl got the first, mid-way through the first half; Effenberg - who's suspended for Wednesday's game - got the second as the interval approached. But Paulo Sergio and Carsten *ancker missed decent second-half chances to extend the lead.
On the bright side - Bayern's official site says it was only their second win in the last five; and anyway, Cottbus are rubbish. |
