The last 8 for the Champions League is as follows:
Group Winners Runners Up
Real Madrid Leeds Utd
Deportivo Galatasaray
Valencia Manchester Utd
Bayern Munich Arsenal
Group winners will be drawn against runners-up,
and teams from the same 2nd stage group (on the same
line in the list above) will not be drawn against each other.
So, having for once decided not to keep teams from the same
country apart in the draw, the results go almost as if they'd
been fixed.
Not only do the 3 English teams avoid each other in the quarter-finals, but the 3 Spanish teams do too. And to cap it all,
there is no possibility of Galatasaray playing an English club.
The draw will take place on Friday at 11am (GMT), and the quarter final
matches will be played on April 3rd or 4th (midweek between the 2 Tottenham games - what a week that's going to be!), and the 17th or 18th for the second leg (which means that our trip to Maine Rd, scheduled for 16th, will have to be rearranged).
