The Champions League first group stage draw set Arsenal up against AIK of Stockholm, the Swedish champions. The club is renowned in Europe for their violent "Black Army" of supporters. The latest atrocities on the stands at AIK's stadium, during Wednesday's qualifying victory agains AEK Athens, provoked Swedish police to fire live ammunition in the air to calm down the spectators, as Soccernet reports. So-called supporters have sent mail bombs to both players and the club, as well as opponents. Old Arsenal favourite Anders Limpar have been among the AIK players who have received violent threats from the "Black Army". When meeting AIK, Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger will again face one of his old manager rivals in Japan's J-League, Scotsman Stuart Baxter, who took over the Swedish club a few seasons ago. |
