It appears that our suggestion
last week, that Gio van Bronckhorst's loan to Barcelona
would help smooth out our poaching of Cesc, was more accurate than we suspected. It's been confirmed by Barcelona.
According to quotes on
PlanetFootball, Barcelona VP Sandro Rossell has confirmed that Barcelona were going to appeal to Fifa, before Arsenal came up
with the idea of lending them Gio. "We consulted Fifa and the rules about young players," he said, "But we have reached an understanding with Arsenal over Van Bronckhorst."
The Sun caught up with us this morning, and they even say that
Cesc is rated so highly that he's been given a Champs League squad number. The CL transfer deadline has now passed, so I guess it's possible that the squad list is available to some. But it's not been published yet so we can't confirm. He wouldn't qualify for the "B list" of youngsters because he's only just joined us, so he'd have to be one of the 25 in the "A List" (see Cl page for explanation of these terms). I guess he might just squeeze into the 25 but let's not forget that he is still very young. His agent has been saying that Cesc is expecting some games for the first team this season but it would be surprising if those games weren't in the League Cup, to start with at least.
He may be in the CL list, but Cesc is still not mentioned anywhere on the official Arsenal site. |
