Freddie starts in Spain, in pain? by Rupe

this is story 356 of 366 in this topic to date
Further to the earlier preview, the Arsenal line-up for this evening has been announced and the only additional point of interest is that Freddie Ljungberg starts instead of Robert Pires.

Contrary to what the BBC site says, there is another change from the side that started the first leg, as Philippe Senderos has not achieved a miracle recovery from the injury that threatens the rest of his season, and is replaced by Sol Campbell.

Arsenal team:

          Lehmann
Eboue Toure Campbell Flamini
         Gilberto
 Hleb Cesc Reyes
         Ljungberg
           Henry
We'd expect them to start like this, with Freddie an advanced midfielder and Gilberto a defnsive one, but all of them apart from Gilberto and perhaps Fabregas can pop up all over the place. Bobby is on the bench along with van Persie, Diaby, Song, Clichy, Djourou, and Almunia.

As I said earlier, some will see Bobby's job offer from Villarreal as a factor. But at the end of the day, it was always going to be a toss-up between the two of them. And if Freddie's playing through pain, it makes more sense to start him and see how he gets on, than to try to use him as a sub.
