Arsene Wenger has expressed his regret at failing to vote
in the French presidential election, in which far-right candidate Le Pen won through to a head-to-head with Jacques Chirac by less than 1% of the vote.
"I feel quite guilty as I didn't vote,", he told PA sport,
"When
you see these kind of things happening, if you multiply my attitude by
180,000, it takes Le Pen out of the top two."
"I don't know whether the
Arsenal players voted, although I don't think so as it's quite complicated
when you live abroad. You must go to the embassy and wait for three hours to
get a stamp. "
"It was a huge shock for me though as we are ready to teach
lessons to everyone politically and then we got a big blow. France is the
country of human rights but we have woken up with a headache now."
"The French national team has helped us forget we have
a problem in France as it is so multi-cultural. It says that we have no
problem with immigration or integration as some players come from Africa and
others from the Caribbean. The French national team contributed to hiding
the problems as it was used as a symbol of successful political integration
of people coming from different countries. But it hasn't worked..."
