Nigeria are out of the World Cup following this morning's
loss to Sweden.
Kanu came off the bench to try to get a goal back, and
nearly got one at the death with a crafty chip.
Regarding Cameroon's group, and contrary to what ITV and others are saying, a 2-0 win for Ireland over Saudi Arabia will not necassarily take them through.
That's because a draw in the other game would see 3 teams finishing level on points, and the results against the
4th side Saudi Arabia would be disregarded.
The way I see it, if Germany-Cameroon draw 0-0, Ireland
top the group and Germany finish second (because of their
better overall GD compared to Cameroon). If they draw
2-2 or more, Ireland go out with Cameroon squeezing through
in second. If it's 1-1 draw, it goes to overall GD and this
is when Ireland will need to have beaten the Saudis by 2 goals
or more to progress.
So from Lauren's perspective, Cameroon need to win or to get a
high scoring draw against Germany.

A few people have emailed me saying that I've got it
wrong and that overall GD does come first in this competition.
Thanks go in particular to Dan Sears who forwarded a FIFA document making it clear that overall GD and overall GS do indeed come before head-to-heads. So, as you were: Ireland need to win by 2 goals to be sure of going through. Cameroon need to
win or hope that Ireland screw up.
