And then there were 6: Lauren coming home by Rupe

Lauren's Cameroon followed Nigeria and France out of the World Cup today, following a battle against Germany. The Germans were down to 10 men halfway through the first half, but won it 2-0 thanks to a Bode goal early in the second. Cameroon also lost a player with 15 minutes to go. With Ireland winning 3-0 against Saudi Arabia, a draw would still not have been good enough for Cameroon to progress.

The Arsenal man was lucky not to be booked after a confrontation with Christian Ziege. They appeared to wrestle each other off the pitch, and the Lauren squared up to the dodgy-haired Tottenham man.

On 72 minutes Lauren had a header come back off the post, the rebound was turned goalwards but Kahn reacted well in the German goal.

On 80 minutes the Germans got their second and realistic hopes vanished. Lauren's earlier escape proved fortuitous as he became one of many players booked, in the 82nd minute.

So Arsenal now have just 6 players left in the World Cup. Inamoto (we think he is still an Arsenal player, for now) plays on Friday. The rest of them are in group F's matches tomorrow. Will it be Ljungberg or the England boys or, hopefully, all of them?

We don't have any plans to release World Cup VI versions of the World Cup XI mugs and so on. But we will keep the World Cup XI ones going as long as people want them. We've received a lot of orders and are told that the first ones are being shipped now.

Following several requests, we have added more types of shirts to the line including T-shirts and vests. See shop for more.

Rupe adds...
A couple of people have emailed in saying that Kanu's still in the competition. Agreed, Nigeria have a game left. But Kanu's not playing in it, and Nigeria definitely won't have any more games afterwards. So I think it's fair to say he's played his last. Still... excellent nit-picking, guys! Keep on keeping us on our toes.
