Kanu's Nigeria beat Morocco 2-0 in Lagos yesterday afternoon
to progress as winners of their group. Morocco were one
of the tournament favourites, thanks partly to their impressive performances
in the 1998 World Cup in France (when they beat Scotland in style, and only failed to
qualify from the group thanks to Brasil's lacklustre display against
Norway in the final match). But Tunisia's win over Congo means that they go through ahead of Morocco on goals scored.
So Coventry get Hadji and Chippo back, but Kanu will be in Africa a good while longer. At least, he will if Nigeria continue to impress as they
did against Morocco, and don't repeat the poor performance that saw them draw goal-less with Congo. Kanu played another blinder
yesterday as a pair of fanstastic goals from Finidi George and
young substitute Aghahowa made Nigeria's dominance count.
