Grimandi on Colorado, Arsenal, and the future by Rupe

Gilles Grimandi has finally gone public on the reasons for his departure from Colorado Rapids in the American MLS league.

Typically, the latest diary entry on his official website is a frank and eloquent piece of writing.

Gilles talks about how he felt uncomfortable and unhappy in Colorado, the result of a combination of several factors including feeling isolated from his family and homeland. He admits that his experience of anti-French feeling in the States (he had abuse shouted at him in the streets, just for being a Frenchman) had an effect, but says that it only added pressure to what was already a difficult decision for him.

While he thanks his fellow players at Colorado Rapids for their support, his treatment by the club appears to have left much to be desired. And he waxes lyrical, at some length, about how his experience this year has reaffirmed his belief that Arsenal is an extraordinary club, and Arsene Wenger an extraordinary manager.

The welcome message on his homepage now reads, "Can I thank everyone associated with Arsenal for the excellent five years I had there? I will never forget my time there and now consider myself an Arsenal fan for life."

Gilles says he feels sharp and still up to Premiership football. He wants more than anything to return to England to play. Maybe we'll be coming up against him next season. Who knows, maybe we'll bring him back. We could have done with him a few times this season, methinks.
