In his first season in management, as player-coach of
Herfoelge Boldklub, John Jensen has won the Danish championship. Their 1-1 draw against Silkeborg, combined with
Broendby's 2-0 loss against AB, puts them 4 points clear with one game to go.
Simon Sørensen writes:
"The title is Herfoelge's first and
quite a surprise, given that Herfoelge comes from a town of only about 2000
inhabitants and that the team consists mainly of rejects from other danish
clubs."
"It also has to be said that one of the main reasons behind the victory,
apart from Jensen having transformed the team into a solid, hardfighting
(and rather boring) unit, is that the danish league in general is, to be
kind, not-so-very-good. As an example Herfoelge has lost nine and drawn six
out of 32 games thus far, and has a goaldifference of only +3 (having
conceded 48)."
Great to see that Jensen has been putting the value of boring workmanlike close victories, learned at Arsenal under George Graham, to good use. Herfoelge will be thanking
their lucky stars that his philosophy wasn't tainted by being
around during Wenger's reign at Arsenal.
But did he score any goals for them?
