The one thing I was fairly sure about for tomorrow's League Cup 4th round date with Grimsby, was that keeper Stuart Taylor would be rested.
Just goes to show...
Ananova quote Arsene Wenger as saying "He's all right and I think he will play."
Taylor took a nasty blow to the chest in a last-minute clash
with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday. But it wasn't so much that which led us to
think Graham Stack would play tomorrow, as the fact that any
kind of injury to Taylor would leave Stack, 4th choice keeper,
as potentially our only fit one.
We like to think that Wenger's preparedness to put Taylor in
against Grimsby indicates that Richard Wright and David Seaman
are both fairly close to returning. It may also be a reflection
of the fact that Taylor had precious little to do on Sunday.
Tomorrow's game could provde some much needed match practice ;-)
Grimsby don't have a Ruud van Nistelrooy, but Arsenal won't
have Campbell and Upson. We fully expect Taylor to be a lot
busier tomorrow.
The Mariners, who beat Liverpool in the last round but have since slipped from the play-off zone to the relegation zone, have one player suspended and a few others doubtful (including
the guy who scored that spectacular winner at Anfield). See
preview page for details (plus Grimsby links and more).
Arsenal's line-up will be hard to guess, but we expect it
to be weaker than the team which inflicted the (first) heavy defeat at Arsenal of Alex Ferguson's last year at Manchester United.
Wenger confirms that Inamoto will start. He surely would
have played against Man Utd (the first time) but he was away
playing for Japan at the time.
Good bets to play will be Tavlaridis, Edu, and Pennant. Martin Keown could play on his return from rib injury. Wiltord,
as the striker who missed out on Sunday,
is likely to start up front.
Ananova think young Brasilian left-back Juan may get his debut. Let's hope this one turns out to be
as good as the last, and that we aren't forced to sell him on the quiet. Have you actually seen this Juan's passport, Arsenal?
The Arsenal squad for the game include, apart from those mentioned above, Kanu, Bergkamp, Halls, Svärd, van Bronckhorst and Aliadiere.
