Arsenal's semi final second leg in the League Cup has been postponed. The reason given is 'adverse weather' in Middlesbrough. The North East has been "enveloped in a blanket of snow". The fixture will be played on Tuesday, February 3 instead, kicking off at 8.

Middlesbrough apparently have a bit of a record of postponing games in poor weather conditions at the Riverside. The club says that "access to the ground can be hazardous in freezing weather", because there is only one entry/exit point. Pretty shocking when you consider the fact that this is not an old stadium.
Credit to ref Deromt Gallagher for making the decision early in order to save as many Arsenal fans as possible the trouble of making the cold journey north.
It seems unlikely that Wiltord or Aliadiere will be back in time for the game, and a freezing night in Middlesbrough probably wouldn't be either player or manager's choice for a Reyes debut either. So as far as Arsenal are concerned the team news probably stands (although perhaps Freddie will be available). The delay probably gives Boro more of a chance to get their centrebacks fit. But perhaps the weekend will see more developments in terms of injuries. |
