Worrying news from Leeds, as loan player/Arsenal winger Jermaine Pennant has (according to The Guardian) been arrested in connection with the rape case in which Jody Morris has been implicated by police.
Pennant has apparently been released on bail. No further details are currently available. The original report can be viewed here.
Rupe adds...
We ought to stress that there is no reason to suppose that Pennant was in any way involved in the alleged rape.
Jody Morris and another man have actually been charged by the Police, not just implicated, and were due to face magistrates today. Pennant has not been charged with anything.
Our understanding is that it was Pennant's car that was used to give the girl in question a lift before the alleged incident. We can only hope that Pennant is not suspected of greater involvement than this, and that he is assisting the police as much as he can.
Morris and the other man were also questioned and released on bail last month in connection with a completely separate allegation of sexual assault. So we will also hope that Pennant thinks long and hard about the company he's keeping.
Still, any kind of involvement in a case like this is of course extremely undesirable, and one can only assume that the chances of Pennant ever playing for Arsenal again have dropped a little more today.
Last week, Arsenal youngster Marcus Artry was convicted of rape. The stories are particularly unpleasant, involving a series of assaults by a small gang including 18 year old Artry. He has been jailed for 9 years. |
