Versatile German youngster Moritz Volz (20) has been loaned to
Wimbledon for just over a month. Volz has been getting good reviews in recent years, and was advocated as cover for Lauren until Luzhny finally found his form at right back earlier this season.
He's happy to play in midfield as well as defence, so it'll be
interesting to see how the Dons use him. And to see how he adapts to the possibility of playing in front of smaller crowds than turn up for Arsenal reserve games! Volz has only played once for the first team, against Sunderland in the Worthless Cup reversal earlier this season.
Volz is expected to go straight into the Wimbledon side to face Brighton at the weekend. Manager Stuart Murdoch has an injury crisis: "I think anyone who is walking will be out there on the pitch."
Greek defender Stathis Tavlaridis has had his loan at Portsmouth extended by another month as well. Harry Redknapp is impressed: "The lad's done okay - he's not let anyone down... His attitude is spot-on. The first thing he asked when he came off the pitch on Saturday was how Sheffield United got on. If you've got lads like that you've got every chance."
23 year old Tavlaridis has made 4 appearances for Pompey in his
first month there, the same as he's got for Arsenal's first team so far.
Rupe adds...
OOps, my mistake. That Dons vs Brighton game was tonight.
Moritz Volz did indeed go straight into the side, and
scored one of the goals in a 3-2 win. Albion were down to 10 min
from just before halftime, and a few minutes after halftime
Volz hit an unstoppable drive from 20 yards out.
Graham Barrett came on for Brighton with 20 minutes to go.
