Auxerre defender Philippe Mexes is to take his club to court in an apparent bid to join Arsenal, French news agency AFP reports. His lawyer, Jean-Louis Dupont, tells l'Equipe that they have asked an industrial tribunal for a ruling after Auxerre insisted Mexes would have to honour an agreement signed last December to extend his contract to 2006. Dupont have earlier represented Jean-Marc Bosman, whose landmark 1995 European Court of Justice victory led to players being made free agents when their contracts expired. He denied Mexes had asked for his help simply to force the club to sell him, but said the dispute stems from disagreement over the French international's salary demands.
