Franny Jeffers has signed for Charlton for a reported £2.6m.
The former Everton striker had a tough few years at Arsenal. Having to compete for a place with the likes of Henry, Bergkamp, Kanu, and Wiltord would have been tricky if he'd been fit. But Jeffers never managed to stay uninjured for long enough.
He went to Everton on loan last season, but didn't impress them enough to make them want to take him on permanently. He's only 23, so still has time, if he can stay fit, to show what he can do. It's good news for England because Jeffers' record at international U21 level is extraordinary.
Meanwhile there are rumours that injuries to Saha and van Nistelroy could tempt Alex Ferguson to look at signing Sylvain Wiltord! The former Arsenal man is still without a club after letting his Arsenal contract run out. Various French clubs have had a look but decided against, and the long-standing Werder Bremen rumour having come to nothing so far.
Wiltord scored the goal that won the league at Old Trafford a couple of years back. So for me, his moving up there would bring back memories of Mickey Thomas's move to Anfield. Maybe he could help them win a cup or something.
