Yesterday, everyone seemed to be saying that Miguel Angulo was on the verge of joining Arsenal from Valencia. But reports from Spain now suggest that it's not happening after all.
Sporting Life says that he has signed a new 4 year deal with Valencia, while Goal.com says that he was in London yesterday to work out a deal with Arsenal after the 2 clubs had come to an arrengement, but the player failed to agree terms with the Gunners. They say that Valencia president has Jaime Orti released an official statement claiming that the striker will be returning to the Spanish club today.
Once again we are reminded that one should never take any transfer rumours at face value, perhaps especially when they come from Spain. Maybe Angulo was talking to Arsenal yesterday, but if he did, and nothing came of it, there could be all sorts of reasons for it. We look forward to hearing something from Wenger or David Dein on the subject, but won't be holding our breath. If they commented on all these stories, they'd have no time to do their jobs!
It seems just as likely as anything else, that Arsenal decided that they just didn't need him, or he wasn't worth the money. Angulo is an attacking midfielder, sometime striker, who has a very low goalscoring rate. Who exactly would he be getting in the team ahead of...?
Angulo has also been
quoted as saying that he didn't want to go to Chelsea.
Also, and perhaps most importantly, on site claims that Angulo is
a) ugly, and
b) the player who claimed that a Valencia vs Man Utd Champs League match was fixed.
