Arsene Wenger has revealed the truth behind the Miguel Angulo story. As reported at the time, it was indeed that Arsenal came within a whisker of signing the midfielder before the transfer deadline. Following a medical, the player changed his mind.
So, it wasn't that he just wasn't worth it, or that he was too ugly.
Our suspicions that it might have been one of these reasons stemmed from the fact that we clearly don't need another midfielder all that much. It appears that the explanation may be in Wenger's knack for changing players' positions to world-class effect. "I thought he could play right midfield, up front or right back", says Le Boss. The right hand side of defence is the position for which we arguably have least cover at the moment, and the position in which Wenger had stated his interest in recruiting. He has even gone as far as admitting that he might be lookign to get another player in that position in the January transfer window.
We feel that perhaps it's not necessary, since Toure and also
Hoyte appear to be very capable at both right back and centre back.
