Portuguese keeper Ricardo claims that he is halfway towards joining Arsenal. "Of course I am ready to go and play in better leagues and not just now but for many years," he said. "I like challenges and tom play in the Premiership is one. and more so a team like Arsenal who aspire to everything. What pleases me about the English football is the treatment they show the players and the atmosphere is the stadiums. Team-mates who play in the Premiership are always encouraging me to make the move."
29-year old Ricardo plays for Sporting Lisbon, and was in goal for Portugal when they beat England on penalties in Euro2004. It'd be seen as a huge blow to Jens Lehmann, who needs regular first team football if he's to secure his starting place for Germany in next year's World Cup. But perhaps it'd be as big a blow for Ricardo, because if Lehmann stays and continues the form of the last part of last season, it's going to be hard for anyone to dislodge him. Personally, I don't see the goalkeeping position as the problem that it seemed a year ago. Let's not forget that two goalkeepers won us the FA Cup, and Lehmann was a big
part in the superb return to defensive form after Wenger gave him that shock demotion mid-season.
