Arsenal are said to be giving a trial to a young Nigerian
defender.
Iyenemi Furo joined the Nigerian squad
before the recent African Nations Cup, in which the Super-Eagles
got to the final. He made his first-team debut during that
tournament, and by the end of it most observers agreed that he had established himself
as the rightful partner to Taribo West in central defence.
Furo also captained the Nigerian team for the Olympic qualifyinh matches.
This page from a Nigerian soccer message board tells how Nigerian
coach Jo Bonfrere was happy to "inform the NFA" of the trial,
and goes on to say that there are strong indications that
he would be signed on.
We're not sure about all this, since Furo recently moved
from FC Sion of Switzerland to AC Milan (see CyberEagles profile for biog info and picture). Still, it
wouldn't be the first time...
Meanwhile, a decidely dodgy African transfer rumour from SoccerWarriors.com.
They say that Wenger has opened up silent discussions with
South African striker Benni McCarthy (currently with Celta Vigo
in Spain). They cite "a website we monitor" but don't tell us
which one. Hmmmmm. |
