We reported at the start of
May that Nigerian defender Iyenemi Furo was being
given a trial by Arsenal.
Well, Soccerwarriors.com is now
reporting that following 4 weeks of trials, Arsenal have decided not to take him on. The site speculates that Furo may not have been flexible enough for Arsène Wenger's tastes, citing his "rigid nature in combining with the midfield and the attack"
and his "sit-tight nature" as a problem. Not sure exactly what they're getting at, but it's interesting (I guess) to note that
Lauren's flexibility was mentioned by Wenger as a reason to be
pleased with his signing (see also Lauren page).
You've got to feel sorry for Furo, he's also been left out of the squad for Nigeria's next World Cup qualifier.
Soccerwarriors also reveal that one of Lauren's colleagues in the Cameroun midfield is being looked at by Tottenham. Marcel Mahouve
is 27 and last season made only 15 starts for Montpelier, collecting an impressive 9 yellow cards. Kind of a poor man's
Lauren, you could say ;-)
