A couple of days ago we heard a rumour, apparently originating inside the club, that whatever Petit and Overmars might be saying about staying, they would be leaving Arsenal this summer.
Next thing we know, Lazio are said to be flying in to London to talk to Arsenal about Overmars and a supposed £15million
bid.
Coincidence? Well, yes, probably. I reckon they just had such a nice time
last summer talking to Arsenal about Anelka that they fancied
the same thing for their holidays this year.
Meanwhile, Petit denies that he's going anywhere. That's the nice thing about this kind of
rumour, and the thing that must wind the players up no end:
whatever they say can be seen as confirmation, whether they
deny or confirm that they're leaving.
We've heard "strong" rumours from club insiders before, and
they don't really have any better record than the tabloids.
The bottom line is that Arsenal quite rightly tend to keep things close to their chests when it comes to transfers, and the only people trusted with the BIG news are those that can be trusted not to
go gossiping to web sites!
So, we say "don't panic". Most likely is that neither Marc nor
Manu will be leaving. But if either of them does go, it'll only
be because Wenger reckons the price is right. We'd be getting a
tasty profit on either of them, having had some of their best years.
And if any of this makes you nervous because you're the type of person who tends to believe these "someone from the club said.."
rumours, we should also tell you that equally "strong" rumours
say that Arsenal will be spending big this summer, that
Fowler is in talks with Leeds, Woodgate is destined for Arsenal,
Hartson didn't fail his Spurs medical they just used it as an excuse to pull out of the deal, and the moon landings were faked.
