I think it's time we issued a "don't panic" message in the wake of recent reports about Patrick Vieira and Tony Adams.
I'll start with the Adams stories because it's easier. As far as
I can see there's nothing in the quotes we've seen recently that's
any stronger than the "I may leave someday" quotes we've heard before. If anything it's less strong. Nuff said? Maybe Tone was probably just trying to wind us up with his "I'd only go to another London club".
The quotes from Patrick Vieira are more of a worry, as the suggestion is that he feels his ambitions will be more easily fulfilled at a "bigger" club like Juventus (who have apparently been showing an interest). But these are just the kind of quotes which are easily misinterpreted, or mistranslated, so until one of our French-speaking correspondents starts worrying too I'd
take it all with a pinch of salt (especially given that he's been quoted in the Standard as saying he's puzzled by the reports).
Remember, Paddy said only recently that he hopes to be Arsenal skipper one day (read it here, it's quite an effective antidote to the Juventus stories). Latest gossip is
that Arsenal are preparing an improved contract for Vieira
(see Eurofootball.com). So perhaps all we've got here is a little harmless contract-talk posturing, seized upon by hacks for its
sensation value.
The latest inwardly mobile transfer rumour is Liverpool striker Titi Camara, who scored the only goal on their visit to
Highbury last season. But the reports talk about how Camara may want to move since becoming 4th choice behind Liverpool's 3 England strikers (good luck tonight, lads!), and it seems like the most likely role for him at Highbury would be Suker's as second bench-warmer behind Kanu.
