Wreh, Mendez and Vivas have all been on long term loans this season and it's no secret they have no place in Wenger's long term plans. Likewise Winterburn is known to have not taken up Arsenal's offer of a one year extension to his contract because he wants regular first team football. Malz was a speculative signing last summer by Wenger who hasn't made much of an impact, so the only real surprise is Luzhny.

The Ukrainian played very well in the latter half of the season, as backup for Lee Dixon, as a makeshift centre half, and even on a couple of occasions as a substitute right winger, so one would have thought he would be retained as a very useful utility defender. However, ArseWeb did hear a whisper from a reputable source some months ago that Luzhny would be going to Middlesborough at the end of the season.
