| More Overmars rumblings |

The Overmars to Barcelona rumour refuses to lay down and die, or is not being allowed to, from the Spanish end at least. The Spanish sports daily Marca is carrying an article today claiming Barcelona is stepping up negotiations for Marc Overmars, further claiming that Overmars has already agreed personal terms with the Catalan club and hopes to sign by 24 July. It says Arsenal want 40 billion pesetas (~15 million pounds) and already have a "tempting offer" from Lazio, but are open to negotiation. Apparently Barcelona are hoping to offload Ronald de Boer in part exchange as they need to reduce the number of Dutch players at the club in order to accumulate another one.
