Latest on the Edu problem, as reported earlier, is that, according to the Guardian, his Portuguese passport was indeed forged. Apparently last time he was over, the player used his Brasilian passport. The forgery was obtained by his agent. You'd think that someone's going to be wanting to ask them a few questions (the Portuguese authorities, perhaps).
The Guardian take Arsenal's professed stance at pretty much face value. In other words Arsenal don't expect there to be a lasting problem. They throw in a last line saying simply that Sao Paulo have decided not to sell Edmilson to Arsenal.
Soccernet on the other hand say that Sao Paulo are merely concerned about Edmilson's case for a work permit (something we've been conerned about since he was first mentioned) in the light of the Edu situation. They quote
Sao Paulo director Jose Dias, "The sale is now in grave
doubt. We are currently checking on Edmilson's documents to see if they will allow him to travel to England."
Meanwhile, however, Soccernet have a theory about Arsenal's attitude too.
They say that David Dein was furious about the passport fiasco, and that Wenger will pull the plug on both deals if things aren't sorted out dead soon.
I hope that's all clear now :-) |
