Arsenal have today completed the signing of Lithuanian striker
Tomas Danilevicius from Lausanne.
Tomas was over for a trial pre-season, and came back last week
(see here), creating our goal in the reserves' 2-1 loss to Watford. He joins under the usual terms (undisclosed fee, long-term contract).
Previously there were rumours of a passport problem being the reason we didn't snap him up in the summer. But it turns out that there are no such problems, since he has a Greek passport. But he plays international football for Lithuania, having 7 full caps.
Given Wenger's admission that it's hard to choose 2 out of the 4 world-class strikers vying for places already, it's hard to see how Tomas is going to fit in. But who's to say that he couldn't turn out to be another inspired purchase, if he gets a chance?
Tomas will be eligible to play for Arsenal in the Champions League, so long as we register him before the start of February.
But it may be that we'd have to de-register someone else to make room in the 25-man squad list. The same goes for Igors Stepanovs.
