Further to Simon's story earlier today, the Corinthians website now carries
this story confirming that Edu will be an Arsenal player within days.
Julio provides the following translation:
"Midfielder Edu went to Atibaia, where Corithians are doing their pre-season
training, to say goodbye to his team-mates. With the paperwork now nearly
ready the athlete leaves this Friday, at midnight, to be presented to his
new team."
"I came to say goodbye to my friends and team-mates and the technical squad
here." The player confirmed that he has now been accepted as a Portuguese
national and that the document confirming this was the hardest for the
consulate of that country to issue."
Edu will arrive in London this weekend where he will undergo a medical
before travelling onto Lisbon where he has to pick up his passport as
requested by Arsenal so that they can register him as an EU player."
The player seemed very calm with the thought of living outside Brazil, as he
will have the company of former team-mate and left back Silvinho. Edu
admitted that he has been following Arsenal's campaign in the League and the
Champions League, "The tactics are very different but I will adapt my game
to theirs."
Thanks also to Danny for sending the URL.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are being (typically) less forthcoming.
this page on the official site only says that Edu will be visiting London, arriving at the weekend, while he continues to wait for his
Portuguese passport.
There seems little reason not to believe that the player will be
popping over to Lisbon to get it. Corinthians don't appear to be expecting him back. |
