next article,
containing reflections and corrections from a correspondent in Japan.
Arsenal fans have gotten used to sweating or groaning whenever they hear the word "Japan". Ever since Arsène Wenger arrived (before, even), we've been subjected to the rumour that he's being tempted to go and manage their national side.
Hopefully by now we've all got into the habit of dismissing the
stories out of hand. Today, for a change, the Japanese FA did us the favour of
dismissing it themselves.
Anyway, this time we've got some good news from Japan. And one can't help wondering if it caused the former story. Wenger spotted talking to a Japanese bloke... just idle
speculation, of course.
Anyway, according to PlanetFootball, Arsenal have taken "one of Japan's biggest football stars" (PlanetFootball's words, despite his appearances last season not reaching double figures) on trial.
Takashi Hirano is a 26-yr old midfielder. He was once at Wenger's old club Nagoya Grampus 8 but has been with Kyoto Purple Sanga for the last 7 seasons.
Hard to be 100% sure given that I don't read Japanese, but
it looks like this is him.
We're still waiting for official confirmation of this triallist.
