A story suggested by Ben Fairweather (after trolling an unofficial Everton site) on the Arsenal mailing list some weeks ago has now made the national press:
Everton's French (gasp) midfielder Olivier Dacourt is a Wenger target, according to Soccernet. A price of £6 million is suggested in a story appearing on a slow news day and suspiciously devoid of corroborating quotes. The rationale for the story in Soccernet is the Petit injury, but seeing as Dacourt is facing a three match ban and Manu may well be back in two weeks, this seems less than credible. Other possible reasons for a move:
-Dacourt has been possibly Everton's best performer in a poor season for them;
-Dacourt is a former Strasbourg player, hence the connection with le boss;
-we have a lot of French players but no-one called Olivier yet;
-Wenger was actually talking to reporters about adding to the "Highbury decor". Take your pick.
