Arsenal have, among two dozen other clubs, been mentioned
as likely new clubs for 19 year old Norwegian international
striker John Carew, as mentioned elsewhere in the Arseweb
Newsreel.
Carew has played the last four games for Norway, after making
his international senior debut just before Christmas. In the
latest game, a 0-0 draw away to Italy, he made enough of an
impression to accelerate the number of inquiries to his Oslo
club Vålerenga.
John Carew is regarded as the biggest footballing talent to
come out of Norway since Tore André Flo, and Norway head
coach Nils Johan Semb already mentions Carew in the same
breath as Ole Gunnar Solskjær when he talks about Flo's
competitors in Norway's starting XI.
Among the other clubs tracking Carew's progress are Manchester
United, Liverpool, Juventus, AC Milan and Ajax. The only
firm offer yet made to Vålerenga - GBP 6M from Serie A club
Perugia - was refused immediately.
John Carew will have his first chance to shine on a relatively
high European level when he is up against Chelsea's defenders
in the CWC quarter finals at Stamford Bridge.
