Arsenal are being linked with Iceland's international goalkeeper Arni Gautur Arason. The 26-year-old plies his trade with Norwegian champions Rosenborg, and has experience from several seasons in the UEFA Champions League. Arason spent a week training with Arsenal in 1997, prior to joining the Trondheim club. He plays down the recent rumours in an interview with local Norwegian broadsheet Adresseavisen. "I haven't asked my agent to find a new club. I'm well established in Rosenborg, and enjoy being first choice at the club. I don't have to get out of here," Arason says. Rosenborg might be interested to sell the Iceland no. 1, but not before the end of their seventh Champions League campaign in a row. Their second choice keeper is Norway's Under 21 international Espen Johnsen, who was linked with Liverpool and Manchester United before choosing to challenge Arason in Trondheim. Johnsen isn't expected to be as patient as his competitor has been; Arason spent two full seasons on the bench before breaking into the Rosenborg team. As for Arsenal, replacing David Seaman will be necessary after this season. However, most Arsenal fans and indeed club insiders seem to think that England Under 21 international Stuart Taylor has what it takes to be Richard Wright's understudy. |
