Arsenal are reported to have signed Mark van Bommel from PSV Eindhoven for £12million. The Dutchman has passed a medical at the club's training ground, according to ITV Sports. Manager Arsène Wenger is set to reunite him with his PSV and Holland teammate, defender Kevin Hofland in time for the start of next season, according to the broadcaster. Arsenal has yet to confirm the signing of van Bommel, who has also been in Manchester United's and Leeds' sights.

ITV seem to have got this from the Daily Star. Make of that what you will!
Seems to me that the bit about a medical could just about be true, but it's
very unlikely that the player has actually signed anything yet.
Let's hope he does, by all accounts Van Bommell would make a more than able replacement for Gilles Grimandi!
As always, until the club confirm a signing, it's best to
believe nothing. We've already been linked with 53 players this summer (see Silly Season) and the World Cup hasn't even started yet.

Thanks to Marijn Folmer for sending us the news that
Dutch football magazine 'Voetbal International' reported
yesterday that van
Bommel and his agent Rob Jansen were in London on Sunday. PSV are also said to be close to signing
Remco van der Schaaf who would be the replacement for Van Bommel.
'Voetbal International' are a reliable source. Note that
they resist the obvious implication, and do not mention Arsenal in particular.
