According to today's papers, the proposed transfer to Birmingham City of Matthew Upson is back on. According to various sources including Soccernet, the defender is having a medical in Birmingham today.
Last week the proposed deal appeared to be off, after both the player and his Arsenal boss said that they didn't want it to happen despite David Dein apparently having entered into talks with City.
If today's story is true, it looks like Dein could be over-ruling Arsene Wenger, although we doubt that anyone from Arsenal will officially put it that way. The sum being talked about has
risen from the absurd £1million to £3million, which still seems like a bargain to us.
If Upson does indeed move in the next 48 hours as rumoured, then injuries to Keown and/or Campbell between now and the end of the season could turn this into the biggest mistake of Dein's Arsenal career. And that's just looking at our prospects for this season. We wait and hope.
