Things don't seem to be getting any better at ITV Digital, with news now that its pay-TV services are set to cease tonight (Tuesday). But it looks like ITV's coverage of Champions League football shouldn't be affected.
Various sources (not least the BBC) assure us that the contract for CL coverage is actually held by the ITV Network, rather than ITV Digital. Rights to show Tuesday matches were 'sub-licensed' to ITV Digital, to be shown on the ITV Sport Channel.
According to the Beeb: 'In the event of ITV Digital's collapse the sub-licence reverts back to the ITV Network, and then they can broadcast the matches on either ITV1 or ITV2' - both of which are subscription-free on both terrestrial and satellite. |
