Coventry City 0 (0) Arsenal 1 (0)
Dennis Bergkamp scored the only goal with
just over 10 minutes to go. It was the kind
of goal we've been lacking, and the kind
you don't expect Dennis to be scoring.
Wiltord showed good control keeping a wayward
pass in play near the left corner, and whipped
a cross into the box which Bergkamp jumped to
head over the keeper.
Coventry had had the best of the first half.
Hadji had a half-chance when Seaman came
unconvincingly for a cross, but Parlour
stopped him. Bellamy had a golden chance
when Stepanovs played him onside, and
slipped the ball past Seaman. But the
Latvian was on hand to make amends with
a goal-line clearance. And Eustace showed
great skill juggling the ball in the box
and making space for a clear shot, but
hacked it over the bar.
Up the other end, Hedman made 2 great saves
from 2 great volleys in the space of a minute.
First Pires fired one from the corner of
the box, and then Bergkamp from the edge
of the D when the resulting corner was
headed out of the box. Both were tipped
over acrobatically.
We suffered some bookings for a change.
Adams for holding
Hadji back when he may have been on for
a telling break, and Vieira for a late
challenge. Both well deserved. Vieira should
be given credit for keeping his cool
when the Coventry players tried to stir
things up. His improved temper, plus the
fact that he went in with one foot rather
than 2, kept it down to a yellow card.
Parlour also saw yellow, and he and Adams will miss the Chelsea FA Cup tie as a result.
Arsenal were more comfortable in the 2nd
half, with Adams getting in on the act
with a shot. After the goal, Wiltord came c
losest to getting a 2nd, with a great turn
and shot which Hedman had to dive to turn
round the post. Looked rather like Henry
(who sat the game out with a thigh strain,
Wiltord for Henry being the only change
from the Bradford game).
There was also an incident involving a Pires
header (after a great run and cross from Vieira)
appeared to be blocked by Thompson's arms.
Arsene Wenger, off the bench he was sitting
on thanks to yesterday's appeal, had to
be calmed down by the 4th official. And let's
hope that's the last we hear of that!

Man Utd keep their lead thanks to a fluke
goal scored by Cole and a massive looping
deflection. Sunderland slipped up
at Derby, so we're 4 clear of them, but Liverpool's
3-0 win keeps them only 3 points behind with a
game in hand. See table,
