Southampton (0) 3 - 2 (1) Arsenal
The Dell, Saturday May 19th 2001
FA Carling Premiership
It was a good thing we got the point we needed
at Newcastle on Tuesday, because the script for
the end of this game had been written some time
ago.
Cole put Arsenal ahead on 26 minutes,
following up his own saved
shot following a clever dummy from Pires.
Saints pulled level a minute into the second half
but the pace of Henry set up our second for
Ljungberg on 54. But Kachloul got his and Southampton's
second equaliser 5 minutes later.
Just after that Le Tissier was introduced from the bench,
and he conjured up a superb winner with 2 minutes to go.
Kind of inevitable, given that those were the last 2
minutes of competitive play at the Dell.
Arsenal rested Seaman and Dixon (the former had a date
with Dale Winton on the National Lottery programme), and
Kanu was an early substitute
for Bergkamp. Arsenal deserved a draw, with Jones making some
good saves and Vieira hitting the post at 2-2.
