When Alex Ferguson starts trying to play with people's minds you know he's worried, so I suppose we should take the Man Yoo bosse's latest outburst as a compliment.
Speaking on MUTV after United's 2-2 draw with Derby, Fergie said: "You expect them (Derby) to fight, but I think they will be knackered by Tuesday when they play Arsenal. I don't think Arsenal will find anything on Tuesday because they've (Derby again) run their socks off."
Fergie's comments will revive memories of the 1996 race for the title when he used similiar tactics to try and stoke up Leeds ahead of a vital match with title rivals Newcastle.
On that occasion his tactics worked. Newcastle beat Leeds, but not without a fight, and after the match Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan famously lost the plot with Ferguson live on Sky.
Can't quite see Arsene Wenger doing a Keggy, but all the same: "I will love it if we beat them, love it!". |
