Acoording to our records (our records page, in fact), Arsenal could be setting two new records tomorrow and equalling two more.
If we score, Arsenal overtake Chesterfield to become the sole holders of the record for most consecutive scoring games in English football, with 47.
And if we achieve that, we will also equal Man Utd's record of scoring in 24 consecutive away premiership matches. We know that
this is a Premierhsip record. The top-flight and English records may be higher although it being more than half the record for home and away matches taken together suggests possibly not.
If we don't lose, we also equal Man Utd's record unbeaten Premiership sequence of 29 achieved in 1998-99, and beat Nottingham
Forest's unbeaten top-flight away record of 22.
Of course "there to be broken" applies to our run as much as to the records, and away at Elland Rd is as likely a venue as any.
Arsenal's biggest blow for this game is the news (from the normally-reliable Ananova) that Dennis Bergkamp is expected
to miss the next 3 matches with an achilles injury. They say the
injury was sustained during Wednesday's match rather than
while driving back...
If Kanu plays, let's hope he starts playing before injury time starts. Another option is Jeffers, and yet another would be to move Wiltord up alongside Henry, with Parlour or Toure on
the right side of midfield.
Pascal Cygan will start for Arsenal in place of the hamstrung Keown. Edu is still a major doubt and Parlour will have a test on the inflamed hamstring which prevented him travelling to Eindhoven.
The press are speculating that Wenger may rest Ljungberg and Bergkamp.
Leeds striker Alan Smith ("the anti-Smudger" seems an appropriate monicker given the contrast with our AS's
disciplinary record) is confident of
shrugging off an ankle problem. With Robbie Fowler injured,
Mark Viduka is expected to lead the line with Smith and Harry Kewell
roving behind him (Kewell is expecting to be over a bout of flu).
Dominic Matteo may return after knee and hamstring problems. Michael Bridges may be out with a new knee problem, having only just come back from a career-threatening knee injury.
Kick-off is at noon.
