Leeds United (0) 1 - 4 (2) Arsenal
Elland Rd, Saturday 28th September 2002
FA Barclaycard Premiership

As expected, Cygan started in place of Keown, and Kanu in place of Bergkamp. Ljungberg was rested (on the bench but not used... not needed!) and with Parlour not back from injury it was Kolo Toure who took the 4th place in midfield.

Kanu and Toure repaid Wenger's confidence with a goal apiece in an opening 20 minutes which put paid to any thoughts of United resisting the irresistable.

Toure created the first for Kanu on 10 minutes, taking a pass from Cole he got into the box on the right and shaped to shoot, but spotted Kanu in space across the penalty area and chose to feed him instead.

10 minutes later Wiltord beat Danny Mills down the wing and it was Toure who rose to power a header home from Sylvain's cross. Soon after, Kelly cleared an effort from Gilberto off the line.

Just over a minute into the second half Henry made it 3. Vieira supplied the pass and Henry roasted Radebe for pace before just getting to the ball before Robinson and poking it past the keeper.

Kewell scored with 6 minutes left with a great first-time volley, but only after the ball rebounded to him from a great double save which Seaman had made from Lee Bowyer.

But Arsenal went straight up the other end. Pennant had come off the bench to provide the perfect through ball for Kanu, who coolly chipped the ball past Robinson.

As explained in our preview, this result sets two new English records, and equals 2 others (see also record-breakers page)

Arsenal are believed to have set another record, for the most black players fielded in a club's starting 11. Seaman and Cygan were the only 2 non-blacks in the line-up.

With Liverpool winning 3-0 thanks to a Michael Owen hattrick at Maine Road, Arsenal's lead at the top of the table remains at 2 points. Other reports:
