Arsenal beat Liverpool at Anfield for only the second time in twelve seasons. Robert Pirès scored the decisive 2-1 goal around midway in the second half. And what a goal it was: the French international got the ball about 30 yards from the Liverpool goal, out on the left wing. After a few steps inside, he curled the ball around the goalkeeper and inside the far post. Before that, Harry Kewell had gived Liverpool the lead in a first half they dominated, while Edu headed home the equaliser via Sami Hyypiä's leg - arguably against the run of play. Arsenal started with Jeremie Aliadiere alongside Thierry Henry up front, and he did well for the 70 minutes or so he got. His replacement was Sylvain Wiltord, who looked to have taken the youngster's promotion like a man. His performance when he came on looked easily his best this season. Sol Campbell played again after his family bereavement, and Kolo Touré again impressed alongside him. Liverpool's Michael Owen looked to pick up a ligament injury in the second half. |
