Arsenal shake-up for trip to Villa? by Rupe

Edu is back in the squad and some sources reckon he'll play. I've said before that I didn't expect him to, seeing as it now seems 99% sure that he'll leave on a free in the summer (he may have already signed for someone - Wenger doesn't even know). And Flamini and Cesc seem good enough, to be frank. But if Le Boss reckons Edu will give his all then we have to trust him. We'll be watching Edu, though!

There are also suggestions that Lehmann may return in goal. I have to say I'm not convinced by this. Yes, Almunia was definitely at fault for a crucial goal on Tuesday, when United took the lead. But it was no worse than many Lehmann slips, and apart from that he's been alright (if not spectacular) since his first couple of nervy matches. The defence has seemed happier with him there than the German, but still the defence is where our biggest problems have been of late. And so if Wenger feels that changes need to be made, so be it. Neither Almunia nor Lehmann is a Seaman though. We need to get back to being the Premiership team with the best keeper, or at least one of the best.

On papers, today's defence will be one of the weakest yet. Toure serves the last of his 3 match ban, and Campbell is out for a couple of weeks with the injury suffered against Man Utd on Tuesday. So it may be Cygan and Hoyte, who finished that match together in the middle of defence, or perhaps Phillipe Senderos will come in. Hoyte has looked alright but he's more of a right back. It's possible also that the shake-up will go further, with Clichy or Eboue starting in one of the full back positions. But it seems unlikely that Wenger will want to start without ANY of his first choice defenders!

Villa have Jlloyd Samuel returning from a one match ban, and Eric Djemba-Djemba looks set to make his debut following his move from Man Utd.

Like Arsenal, Villa are looking to bounce back after a disappointing midweek. They missed 2 penalties in a 1-1 draw with Fulham on Wednesday.

LATE UPDATE. Sky Sports confirm that Almunia has been dropped in favour of Lehmann.
