Supporters quick to condemn early semi kick-off by Rupe

Arsenal Independent Supporters Association (see AISA pages) have been quick to condemn the early kick-off for the Arsenal-Tottenham semi at Old Trafford.

AISA's Steve Powell says,

"Yet again the football authorities have kicked the most loyal supporters in the teeth. Opinion amongst Arsenal supporters was divided on moving the game to Old Trafford. Based on those we've spoken to opinion seems to be about 50-50 on playing at Stamford Bridge or Old Trafford. Many felt it was worth the long journey for the extra capacity. What everybody said though is that, if it was in Manchester, we had to be the second match."

And who can argue with that?

Well, Barry Baker of the Arsenal Supporters Club says "We feel that the bigger the stadium the better. From the fans' point of view, we have no problem.", and Arsenal have said it's "the best compromise under the circumstances". (see Guardian site). At the end of the day, it's hard to argue with the choice of venue. If we have to go outside London it might as well be to the biggest stadium, even if the pitch is shot to pieces. I've not seen an explicit statement of the reason for the early kick-off, but it's presumably something to do with drinking time.

Our understanding is that there's only one train scheduled that'd get us there on time. It leaves Euston at 9am and will probably be booked up already (but it's worth a go, try theTrainLine).

AISA have also put together some handy info about Munich for travelling fans, see match preview. Of course, we might not know if we're playing in Munich this week for a couple of days yet...

See here for ticket info.
