The Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) says it may call a strike, forcing the blackout of all televised football, in response to an 'insulting' offer from the Premiership and Football League.
They say that even though TV revenue has increased, with the new TV contract kicking in, the PFA's share of it has gone down. PFA chief Gordon Taylor said he could only call it 'derisory'... but then called it something else. 'I will go so far as to say it is an insult and I can only surmise that this is an attempt at a show of strength on their part.'
Speaking on BBC Radio, he even suggested that it was an attempt by the football authorities to destroy his union. A players' meeting next weekend is to discuss - and vote on - the situation. |
