As expected, the PFA's 2,500 members have voted to strike in the argument over the union's share of television income.
To the anger of the TV news channels, the PFA's press conference kicked off with a lengthy 'home video'. But Gordon Taylor finally confirmed that 99% of players had said they were 'prepared to take part in strike action, consisting of a refusal to play in any matches after 23rd November 2001 at which TV cameras are present and in use.' Only 22 players voted 'no'.
The smart money is still on the two sides coming to an 11th hour agreement. But a strike, if it is to go ahead, must be called within 28 days - having given a week's notice.
Gooners will probably be hardest hit by any continued strike, with 6 Arsenal games scheduled for live TV coverage between now and New Year's Day.
We're only speculating here, but a blackout of the Arsenal-ManU game on 25 November - surely one of the most mouthwatering fixtures in the calendar - would be a particulary powerful signal, don't you think?
