It is being reported (eg Reuters) that Fabien Barthez is to be offered an advertising
contract by Tesco.
The supermarket chain feel than Man Utd's keeper would be
the perfect person to promote their butter.
"Marketing men spend hundreds of thousands of pounds trying to find the right image for
a product but here's one that became apparent in five minutes of Manchester United's
game against Arsenal".
Given that Barthez's errors tend not to be handling errors
as such, but more a matter of general carelessness, the
"butterfingers" tag is a bit harsh (we prefer "buffoon").
To be scrupulously and painfully honest, Richard Wright's
recent errors make him a more worthy recipient of the title.
So the only question in our minds is whether the cheeky chappy at Tesco behind this story supports Arsenal, Liverpool, Leeds, or Man City.
We'd like to think it's Arsenal. And seeing as Tesco
was born in Hackney, perhaps we should be adding the firm to
our famous list of celebrity Gooners
On a vaguely related note, many thanks to Ben Kellerman
for pointing out the typo in this. Stuart Taylor's pretty tall for his age,
isn't he?
