Bolton Wanderer's Ivan Campo has had one of the yellow cards
picked up at Highbury last Saturday overturned, and will not
now have to serve a suspension.
To say that this is a shock would be an understatement.
The statement on the FA website says, "We can confirm that following the sending off, referee David Pugh has informed the Football Association that, having viewed a video of the incident, he now wishes to withdraw the second booking."
"Therefore, only the first caution for dissent will be recorded against the player and he will not be required to serve a suspension."
At the time it seemed that the first card was the only one that
had a possibility of being withdrawn, seeing as it was for dissent and we couldn't see what was actually said. The second card was for throwing the ball away at a free-kick, an action
which was clearly seen by thousands at the ground and many more on
telly later on.
Double standards? It seems that being Spanish is less of a
problem for refs than being French. And it's not as if Campo
could realistaically consider himself unfortunate. Although
he played well, these
were hardly the only bookings he could have got. He was charging
around like a demented Marx brother at times. |
