"Cup-tied" elapses in February by Rupe

Further to my previous article attempting to explain the rules concerning players' eligibility for UEFA competitions, it has come to my attention that I got one aspect wrong.

Previously I believed that being "cup-tied" (ie once a player has played for a club in UEFA competition they cannot play for another club in UEFA competition that season) lasts all season.

According to someone at UEFA, this is not correct.

They say: "a player can play for two different clubs in one season in the UEFA Club Competitions, as long as the aforementioned deadlines are respected".

The deadlines to which they refer are the start of the competition (for registration of an initial list) and Feb 1st 2001 for registration of up to 3 new players.

Thus, Igors Stepanovs can play for Arsenal in the Champions League this season from Feb 1st (despite having played for Skonto Riga in the qualifying rounds), so long as Arsenal put him into their UEFA squad by Feb 1st.

And any players signed before Feb 1st, regardless of who they've played for this season and in what competitions, will also be eligible to play in the Champions League after Feb 1st, again if Arsenal put them into the squad list (note that this could involve removing others from the list as there is a maximum number of 25).

As far as we're aware, eveything else previously explained was correct.
